Veterans and or spouses may be eligible for the Veterans Aid & Attendance Pension. In order to qualify the Veteran must have served during an active conflict and received an honorable discharge. This pension covers in home care as well as assisted living facilitiers.

The pension can be as much as $1600 per month for the veteran and about $965 for the spouse. There are income and asset tests that must be met.  However, all medical costs included assisted living costs can be deducted from any monthly income. Assets can also be sheltered more easily than under a Medicaid spend down restrictions.

This benefit if approved is made effective retroactively to the first full month after the VA receives the application. It becomes very important to file the proper paerwork quickly.
